How do you calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100: tip = bill × (percent ÷ 100). On a $60 bill at 18%, the tip is 60 × 0.18 = $10.80, for a total of $70.80. To split, divide the total by the number of people.
Tipping customs vary by country, but in the United States 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurant service. This calculator handles the math and the split so nobody has to do it at the table.
Common tip amounts
| Service | Typical tip |
|---|---|
| Restaurant (good service) | 18–20% |
| Restaurant (standard) | 15% |
| Takeaway / counter | 0–10% |
| Taxi / rideshare | 10–15% |
